There’s so much on your to-do list the week before your wedding – who has time to worry about skincare? Unfortunately, all that stress and lack of sleep can wreak serious havoc on your skin. Avoid a pre-wedding breakout with these acne-stopping tricks!
Do Your Laundry
It’s hard to comprehend the amount of dead skin cells and germs that are on your towels, but a simple spin cycle could be all you need to prevent them from causing a massive wedding-crashing pimple. The problem with towels is that they retain moisture, allowing bacteria to breed – and you want to dry your face with that?! Do your skin a favor and make laundry a priority.
We know, we know, this goes against everything you’ve heard about a good skincare routine, but the week before your wedding you should really stick to mild, gentle cleansers and leave the heavy-lifting exfoliators on the shelf. Exfoliating is great the months leading up to your wedding to deep clean pores and even out skin texture, but they can be a little harsh on your skin leaving it red and irritated. That’s why the week before should be simply about about keeping your skin clean and clear of dirt and impurities before they have a chance to clog your pores, so leave your Clarisonic powered-down until after the honeymoon.
Moisturize And Repeat
Opt for a lightweight moisturizer that is noncomedogenic to hydrate your face without causing breakouts and be sure to apply a thin layer morning and night – consistency is key if you want good results.
Go Makeup Free – We Dare You
You spent months and months perfecting your skincare routine – don’t ruin all that hardwork because you accidentally fell asleep with your makeup on after a late night of stuffing welcome bags. The best way to avoid disaster is to just let your skin breathe (read: skip the makeup) for a week or two before your wedding.
Yes, even your hair routine can cause zits! Avoid using products with fragrance, oils, pomades or gel – these can get on your face and block your skin’s pores causing irritation. Instead, wash your hair with a gentle, sulfate-free shampoo and conditioner and keep it pulled back off your face.
Touching your face is a force of habit that can be hard to break. But keeping your hands off your face can prevent the spread of bacteria or irritating an already sensitive area. And this should go without saying, but if you DO get a pimple before your wedding, the worst thing you could do is try to pop it. Let your makeup artist worry about hiding it and leave it alone!
Milk contains hormone testosterone related components that stimulate oil glands in the skin, setting your skin up for an acne-fail. We understand that ice cream is your stress food, but cutting it out a week or two before your wedding can make a big difference in your complexion!
Hide From The Sun
The sun’s UV rays cause irritation and redness opening yourself up to serious skin damage as well as breakouts. Be sure to wear hats, protective clothing and SPF if you plan on being in the sun – not only will they protect against acne, but they will help you avoid unwanted tan lines.
Drinking water is the number one way to get clear skin. We’re not saying you need to drink a solid eight glasses of water a day, but cutting out the sugary drinks can definitely help a breakout situation. Also, staying hydrated helps flush out toxins and keeps your insides healthy, which in turn keeps your skin healthy too.
Stress and wedding planning go hand-in-hand, but so do stress and pimples. So remember, Keep Calm and Marry On.
